Department 2: Malnourished Children (in State Custody)

Departments 1 and 2 are part of Sveta Mina Multi-function Hospital, located in the city of Plovdiv. Children treated in these departments are infants to age 3 who are severely disabled and who have been abandoned to the care of the state. Children who survive past the age of 3 are transferred to other institutions. Department 2 is for children who have been taken from their partents due to malnutrition.

These departments are considered burdens to the hospital because they generate no revenue. As such, they are overlooked and very under funded. The building itself is in very bad condition and needs major renovation work. The staff members are generally very good and caring, but are woefully underpaid and emotionally exhausted from the strain of caring for extremely sick children in what is often a hospice situation.

Sveta Mina has greatly benefited from the generous support of sponsors during 2004. We would love to continue to be able to help these children in the coming years.
